How Direct Billing Works

When you book online, add your extended health plan details (insurance company, policy or group number and member ID). After your treatment, we submit the claim to your insurer for you. Your insurer usually responds within seconds, and you only pay any amount your plan doesn't cover.

Direct billing depends on your therapist, because each practitioner registers with insurers individually, so check your therapist's card on our Therapists page or their profile before you book. We usually bill your primary insurance only; you can submit any remaining balance to a secondary plan yourself. If your therapist doesn't direct bill, or an insurer's portal isn't working on the day of your treatment, you pay up front and receive a receipt to submit yourself. Treatments with our student bodyworkers are not covered by insurance or extended health benefits.

FAQs

What do I need for direct billing?

Your insurance company name, policy or group number and member or certificate ID. If you are covered under a spouse's or parent's plan, you will also need the plan member's name and date of birth. You can add these when you book online.

How do I know if my therapist direct bills my insurer?

Each therapist's card on our Therapists page lists the insurers they direct bill, and their profile page has the full list. Some of our RMTs don't offer direct billing; with them, you pay up front and receive a receipt to submit yourself.

Do I need a doctor's note for massage therapy coverage?

It depends on your plan. Some extended health plans require a doctor's referral before they cover massage therapy, while many do not. Check your benefits booklet or call your insurer before your first visit.

Do you direct bill ICBC?

Yes. Shaw Arbuckle (RMT), Alyssa Gao and John Wu (acupuncture) and Ben Mastar (physiotherapy, through Versa Rehab) direct bill ICBC. For the first 12 weeks after a car accident, ICBC pre-approves up to 12 treatments of each. You don't need a doctor's referral, just your ICBC claim number and Personal Health Number (PHN).
